NEC extends CVR exercise in Edo, Ondo States

_By Oke-Oghene Orogun, Benin City

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the period of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo and Ondo States.

The Commission approved extending the exercise from Thursday, June 6th, to Sunday, June 9th, 2024, following appeals by stakeholders, to enable more eligible persons to register.

The electoral umpire made the decision after a meeting on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. Among other matters, the meeting reviewed the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo and Ondo States, which is scheduled to end tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5th. Similarly, the duration of the exercise is extended from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

Moreover, the number of centres has been significantly increased beyond the 397 wards and the two State offices in Benin City and Akure. This expansion now includes all 36 local government offices of the Commission in the two states, making it more accessible to everyone.

According to the Commission, “more machines will also be deployed to areas with peculiar needs such as difficult terrain or communal issues. Like the Ward registration centers, detailed information on the names and location addresses of the LGA offices have also been uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms for the guidance of registrants in the two States.”

The Commission therefore strongly urges eligible voters to seize this crucial opportunity of the extension to register, transfer or correct personal information on their PVCs as provided by law, as no further extension will be granted.
