Gov Fubara Sets to Renovate Assembly Quarters

By Katherine Abayomi, Port Harcourt

The former speaker of the Assembly Martins Amaewhule while speaking with newsmen accused the governor of plotting to demolish the assembly quarter building. He said he mobilized thugs to his official residence and invaded the official residence of members of the Rivers state House of Assembly who escaped from him by jumping through the fence and breaking the back gate.

He expressed disappointment stating that the Governor’s undue interference in legislative matters is alarming.

However, the Governor retorted to this in an interview at the premises of the assembly quarter and stated that he was at the quarters for an on-the-spot assessment of the facility for rehabilitation.

Restoring the quarters to a livable standard, especially with the emergence of a new speaker of the Assembly is commendable.

The Governor stated that he went to see things for himself and know how things are. To know areas that need to be changed.

He said Martins Amaewhule has ceased to be a member of the state Assembly since their defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) the platform on which they were elected into office.

Fubara states that he is focused on a peaceful governance of the state therefore all erstwhile lawmakers are no longer members of the state Assembly.

Recall that Victor Oko Jumbo (Member representing Bonny consistency ) was recently elected as the new speaker of the Assembly.
