Oke-Oghene Orogun, Benin City

A hit-and-run accident involving a commercial bus driver evading arrest by security agents has left a woman in her 30s in critical condition. The incident which occurred on Thursday evening at the King Square by Lagos Street junction, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, caused confusion and traffic gridlock among street traders and commuters in the area.

The vehicle whose registration number could not be immediately verified at the time of the incident, plowed through
the crowded area destroying goods.

It was also gathered that officials of Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV) racing without caution behind a driver in their operational vehicle, quickly beat retreat after the driver made a U-turn and crushed the woman.

An eyewitness told Newsnowng that the fleeing driver was previously booked for committing a traffic offense at the King Square by PUWOV.

Sympathetic Nigerians thereafter evacuated the accident victim in an ash colour Toyota Yaris car to Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin City for urgent medical attention, while a manhunt for the fleeing driver continued.
