One Dead, Two Injured While Trying To Escape Arrest in Rivers

One armed robber met his death and two others sustained severe injuries while trying to escape after an unsuccessful operation, on Wednesday 17th January, at Ada-Goerge road/Rumukokwu in Nkpolu Oroworujwo community, Port Harcourt City Council of Rivers State. The armed men, numbering five broke into a shop that deals in wholesale sealed engine oil on Wednesday morning and looted goods worth millions of Naira, it was learned.

According to an eyewitness, Woke Uche, the robbers came with two vehicles, tied up the security guards on duty, and started transferring the products into the awaiting car.

Woke explained that as the armed robbers were leaving after they had successfully loaded the engine oils and other valuables into their car, one of the private security guards, a northerner attached to the warehouse where the sealed engine oil is sold wholesale, raised the alarm which attracted passerby and the Police.

He said as the robbers noticed, they started driving very fast and on sighting the Police patrol van that was giving them a hot chase, they tried to use an alternative route by passing a road that linked to Rumukokwu from AdaGeorge Road where they rammed into a stationed trailer.

However, the driver of one of the cars died on spot on the while two members were critically injured. Another eyewitness said the other two members of the gang escaped.

Meanwhile, the Commands spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, when contacted, said the Police were giving the robbers chase when they collided with a stationary vehicle.

She added that the suspects were rushed to the hospital where one of them was confirmed dead and the other two who were critically injured are receiving treatment
