Group berates Senator Mpigi over divisive statement against Rivers Governor

…declares support for the state government

Stakeholders of Rivers South East have berated the senator representing Rivers South, Senator Barry Mpigi, over his recent statement on the impasse between the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Sim Fubara.

Rising from a meeting, the group, in a communiqué signed by Amaopusenibo Emmanuel Taribo and other stakeholders of the senatorial district, criticised the recent statement credited to Senator Mpigi, in which he accused Governor Sim of sidelining leaders of the party.

The group noted that the action of Senator Mpigi was done in a bad light and was intended to malign the office of the governor.

The communique reads, “We are pained to note the biassed stance of Senator Mpigi, who should ordinarily play an arbitrating role rather than the deliberate stoking of the minor internal feud to his expected wildfire proportion with a hidden intent for selfish advantage haven.”

“We utterly condemn, in the strongest terms, the meeting and its outcome and unequivocally state that the communiqué issued at the meeting is not a true representation of the position and opinion of the good people of Rivers South-East Senatorial District; after all, the people of the senatorial district have been highly tolerating of his poor representation and performance in the National Assembly of the past 13 years.”

“We commend all Nigerians, notable Rives sons and daughters, non-governmental organisations, civil societies, and various ethnic nationalities both in Nigeria and the diaspora, who stood and are still standing with the governor in defence of our democracy, while we frown at those who have yet to speak out against this tyrannical circumstance that almost engulfs our state.”

“We commend our son and leader, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Amaopu Senibo Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for the peaceful disposition, courage, and maturity he has demonstrated thus far in the face of obvious provocation to the office and the power of the office of the governor. We, therefore, unanimously, for ourselves and on behalf of our people, pass a vote of confidence in the Governor of Rivers State. We urge him to continue the good work he is doing to reposition our dear state.”

The group further commended the position of the president on the issue, stressing that it had mitigated the proposed political coup in the state.

“We commend Mr. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his fatherly and timeous intervention in the attempted coup against democracy in Rivers State. We promised to continue to galvanise support for his renewed hop agenda under the leadership of Sir Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State,” the communiqué read.
