Tinubu to overhaul educational system in Nigeria- Mamman

By Uko Etim, Uyo

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman has assured that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would overhaul the educational system of the country. The Minister of Education, Professor Tehir Mamman disclosed this during a Two-day Retreat on the Ministerial Deliverables and Implementation of the Education for Renewed Hope: Road for the Nigerian Education Sector 2024-2027 for Principal Officers and Heads of Federal Ministry of Education (FME) Agencies in Uyo on Weekend.

He noted that due to the priority the President has for education, the budget allocation to the sector has astronomically improved as compared to past years. “I can assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will improve the educational system in the country. This is the first time in history that the Education Ministry experienced double digits in the budget. As a ministry, we need to be fully prepared to turn around the basic and secondary education by doing something better to improve the education in our nation.

“We want to infuse some entrepreneurial skills into the basic and secondary educational system, and it will cut across our tertiary institution. We will equally introduce technology into basic education. We will develop our teachers, and give them a sense of life and belonging because you cannot talk about quality education when the teachers are ill-prepared.”

The Minister further hinted that his ministry would develop short-term vocational skill plans for millions of out-of-school children to turn them into productive members of society
He, however, said that during the retreat, a committee would be set up to critically look into the curriculum and infuse reforms into them for the betterment of the nation.

On his part, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu said, “Education being the bedrock of sustainable development is key to the attainment of the 8 Presidential Priorities.

He commended all the stakeholders who worked towards the development, critiquing, and compilation of this 2024 – 2027 Roadmap for the Nigerian education Sector which is considered a plan of action, to ensure proper and timely implementation.
