Governor Siminalyi Orders For The Reopening Of St Charles Surgery Hospital

By Katherine Abayomi, Port Harcourt

Rivers State government has asked that the St Charles Surgery Hospital in Bonny Island be reopened. The hospital was closed down following a negligent act by workers on duty on the 23rd of April 2024 which led to the untimely death of a patient.

In a statement signed by the commissioner of health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, and issued by the press officer of the Ministry of Health, Alete Ednah, she stated that the hospital management had relieved the medical personnel duty and appropriate disciplinary measures were taken by the Nigerian MEDICAL Association Rivers State Branch.

Governor Simialayi Fubara warned medical officers in government and private four health facilities against any future occurrence of this nature and advised them to take their jobs seriously.

Dr Adaeze urged the newly inaugurated anti-quackery committee in the state to double its efforts and prosecute any erring medical officer or facility.

She further stated that the office of the Director of Medical Services, which also doubles as chairman of the Anti-Quackery Committee, is open 24 hours daily for complaints from the public about any health worker or health facility that renders health care services.
